In this thesis I have designed Bike Center facilities in the Malmi old railway station. The basis of the design is in the Measuring construction and renovation course, during which I studied the old station building, dimensioned the building, and made my first plan for Bike Center. The thesis continues the same project more deeply acquainted with the history of the building and the construction and interior design of the 1920-30´s. I interviewed the Finnish bike actors and explored the bike centers in the world. I explored the City of Helsinki measures to promote cycling and took part in the planning meetings.

Helsinki Bike Centre’s aim is to provide services for cyclists, as well as to familiarize people with cycling and in this way increase cycling as a form of movement. The long-term goal is to increase the sustainable development in ecological way. Bike Centre’s purpose is to further develop the services and expand cycling and service network more and more people ’s attention. In the Bike Center plans diversified operations of the center has taken into account as supporting form of communion.

The planning progressed through the determination of the user profile and the Bike Center facilities towards details that must take into account in the renovation of the building, such as electricity and sanitation plans. Design completed as a concept plan which will become more precise when cost and the renovation budget are revised. The plan will become more exact when bike center actor has been chosen, and his action plan defined.
